As drivers worldwide switch from internal combustion engines to electric technology, automakers must adapt or risk being left behind. While some struggle to keep up with the new automotive standards, others thrive and innovate. Hyundai is a great example of a proactive carmaker that pushes the entire industry forward due to its innovative approaches to propulsion technology. This article explores the models in Hyundai's current electric vehicle (EV) lineup.

2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5

Crossover SUVs have largely replaced sedans and hatchbacks and are now the most popular vehicle type in the U.S. The reasons are fairly obvious, as no other vehicle type is compact enough to be easy to drive in crowded city traffic but also spacious enough to work as a family car. The new Hyundai IONIQ 5 is all that and more, making it very popular with both automotive experts and the general public.

The 2025 model gets multiple upgrades compared to last year's IONIQ 5, including a larger 84 kWh battery pack and up to 318 miles of electric range, compared to last year's 303-mile range. A new XRT trim is also available, which makes the IONIQ 5 a more competent off-roader by increasing its ride height and fitting it with all-terrain tires, plus some aesthetic tweaks. All trims get a slight style update with new spoiler designs for both front and back. The interior has been slightly redesigned to make it easier for everyone to access the most important functions.

The 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 is available in four trims:

  • SE Standard Range: Like all other trims, the base IONIQ 5 comes with a single electric motor that generates up to 168 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque, which can be upgraded to a dual-motor configuration that combines to produce 320 hp. It also comes with a long list of features, including 19-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry and push-button start, LED headlights, a six-speaker sound system, a 12.3-inch touch screen interface, and smartphone connectivity through Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.
  • SE: This trim comes with the same list of features but has a more powerful motor and a larger battery pack. It can generate up to 225 hp and has a range of up to 318 miles, compared to the Standard Range's 245 miles.
  • SEL: The SEL trim adds more features to the IONIQ 5. Highlights include a hands-free liftgate, a power-adjustable driver's seat, a wireless phone charger, and elegant-looking synthetic leather upholstery.
  • XRT: New to the IONIQ 5 lineup, this trim boosts off-road capability. It does so with the help of all-terrain tires, front tow hooks, and a standard all-wheel-drive system.
  • Limited: The top trim is the best that the IONIQ 5 can offer. Some of its features include 20-inch wheels for the dual-motor configuration, driver's seat memory settings, and a digital rearview mirror.

2025 Hyundai IONIQ 6

If you're a fan of the classic sedan, the 2025 IONIQ 6 may be just what you're looking for. It's still in its first generation, which was first introduced in 2023, and it's arguably one of the best-looking cars currently on the market. It's also highly dependable and can give you up to 361 miles of electric range when equipped with the 77.4 kWh battery pack. The 2025 model gets a head-up display that shows essential information right on your windshield.

The available trim configurations for the 2025 IONIQ 6 are:

  • SE Standard Range: Just like the IONIQ 5, the entry-level IONIQ 6 has a smaller battery than the rest of the lineup but can still drive for an impressive 240 miles on a single charge. It also comes with useful and innovative features, including LED for all exterior lighting, a heat pump that heats the cabin better than regular heaters, a configurable digital instrument panel, and the same 12.3-inch touch screen as the IONIQ 5.
  • SE: Just like the IONIQ 5, the IONIQ 6's SE trim adds a larger battery pack and comes with a more powerful 225 hp motor.
  • SEL:  This trim adds more features, such as larger 20-inch wheels, a digital key, and H-Tex synthetic leather upholstery.
  • Limited: The top IONIQ 6 trim comes with features such as ventilated and power-adjustable front seats, a sunroof, and a premium eight-speaker Bose audio system.

2025 Hyundai KONA Electric

The 2025 KONA Electric is Hyundai's most affordable EV, but that comes at no compromise for those who drive it. The 2025 model gets a new sporty-looking N Line trim and adds more premium features to the basic trims. The basic trim has 133 hp and 200 miles of range. All trim levels provide a 261-mile range and 201 hp.

Other trim highlights include:

  • SE: The basic trim comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone automatic control, keyless entry with push-button start, and similar infotainment features to the IONIQ 5 and 6 basic trims.
  • SEL: This enhances the base trim by adding heated front seats, roof rails, and a power-adjustable driver's seat.
  • N Line: The new trim makes the KONA look and feel sportier by adding 19-inch alloy wheels, exterior style cues, ambient interior lighting, and a sunroof.
  • Limited: The top KONA trim introduces even more features, such as a power liftgate, synthetic leather upholstery, ventilated front seats, and soft-touch interior panels.

2026 Hyundai IONIQ 9

Hyundai will soon release the IONIQ 9, a three-row SUV ideal for those with large families. It promises to deliver excellent power and up to 335 miles of range, plus a towing capacity of up to 5,000 pounds that will make it ideal for those who want to carry a trailer with them on their family vacations.
